Keawakapu Beach Local Favorite at Wailea Ekahi

From our beautiful Maui vacation rentals at Wailea Ekahi you can walk directly out to spectacular Keawakapu Beach. It’s among the best Maui beaches you’ll find with a 2/3 mile stretch of soft sand. From the shore you can look out to the island of Kahoolawe in the distance. If you’re staying at one of our other Maui condos be sure to include this beach on your Maui vacation itinerary.

keawakapu beachKnown as “The Sacred Harbor” in Hawaiian and referred to as Wailea’s “First” Beach, this is a local favorite and is seldom crowded. In the morning and early evening you’ll find Keawakapu Beach a good place for practicing yoga, taking long walks along the shore, snorkeling near its lava rocks and enjoying romantic Maui sunset walks. By mid-afternoon the wind and surf picks up which is perfect for boogie boarding. Nearby you can rent kayaks and easily enter the ocean from here. During humpback whale watching season I’ve come up close to these honored guests who can be seen off our coast.

Families like Keawakapu Beach too because of its flat and sandy bottom at both ends of the beach. The slope can be gentle with no sudden drop-off. If you swim out from the middle section you will encounter coral and more reef like conditions. This area has a break that attracts surfers in summer who have nicknamed it “Sidewalks".

Keawakapu Beach Tips: Good choice for families, ocean sports, swimming, seasonal humpback whale watching, and viewing Maui fireworks on July 4th.

Maui Dining Near Keawakapu Beach: Try Five Palms Beach Grill for lunch or a romantic dinner at sunset and also Sorento’s On The Beach.

Facilities: Three public parking lots with restrooms and outdoor showers. Free parking. Nice lawn area at the north end (Kihei side). No lifeguard.

Directions: Three parking lots, the closest to Wailea is at the end of S. Kihei Road. To reach middle beach, park at the corner of Kilohana and S. Kihei Road – look for a blue shoreline access sign. At the northern end there is beach parking at Mana Kai.
