Kamaole Beach Has Three Iconic Maui Beaches in Kihei

Kamaole Beach

Warm and inviting with plush sand, there are three Maui beaches in Kihei that carry the same name of Kamaole. Each one is distinguished by a number from one to three. This guide will help you choose your favorite when you stay at our Maui vacation rentals.

Directions and Facilities: Kamaole beaches border South Kihei Road and are easily accessible. On weekends and holidays the parks are busy. All three have lifeguards, restrooms, showers and barbecue grills. Kamaeole Beach III features a large parking lot. The other two have limited parking in front and more spaces across the street.

Plan A Day At All Beaches – Things to Do on Maui

Swim laps between Kamaole Beach I and Charley Young Beach to start your Maui vacation. Grap a mask and fins then snorkel on the reef between Kamaole II and III. For a break, take the keiki (kids) to Kamaole Beach III where there is a playground. After a day of ocean sports and sunbathing, end your day with a blazing Maui sunset.

Kamaole Beach III

Once known as Kalaehuku, you’ll find the most parking here and a large grassy area for kids to play. The waves in the shore break attract body surfers. The ocean is safe for swimming except during heavy surf or storms.

Kamaole Beach II

Hawaiians called this beach Iliiliholo for “running pebbles.” It’s a great place to see Hawaii turtles and watch Maui sunsets. Reef snorkeling is good too.

Kamaole Beach I

The right side is known as Charley Young Beach in honor of the gentleman who lived on the low sea cliffs above the beach in the 1950’s. Swimmers like doing laps here. Originally known as Kaluaekakoko that refers to catching akule, the beach is sandy but drops quickly to overhead depths.
