Maalaea village rests at the north end of the Maalaea Bay, several miles up the coast from Kihei. The village is oceanside and centered on the boat harbor, which is generally busy with ocean activity vessels. Maalaea is convenient to the many attractions and dining options of both Kihei and the west side (Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kapalua) but quietly set apart from the hustle-bustle of these busier areas of the island.

The Maalaea area is famous for it's miles of white sand beach known affectionately as 'Sugar Beach'. This is a wonderful beach for walking, given it's long uninterrupted expanses of fine white sand. Sunset or moonlight strolls on the beach are a popular activity for locals and visitors alike.

Numerous dive, deep sea fishing, whale watching and other vessels depart the Maalaea Harbor daily. For adventure on the water, this area is wonderful. Maalaea is also home to the Maui Ocean Center, Hawaii's largest aquarium.
